Message from the Board

Greetings, fellow Sitzmarker members and to our many former members reading this message. On behalf of the Board of Directors, I would like to take this opportunity to share with you the many new and exciting things going on in our club. I will break this into several sections, as this will be a long, but hopefully informative email.

60th Anniversary Celebration

We are very excited about our 60th Anniversary Celebration being held this fall. It will be on Saturday, November 7th from 5 to 9 pm at the Homestead Bistro & Café at the base of the Tram (in the old Santiago’s space).

The celebration will include a slideshow of photos from the past 60 years; a fantastic raffle featuring items donated by members, partner companies, and organizations; and keynote speaker Michael Donovan, Manager of the Tramway, who has decades of experience in the ski industry. The Turner & Grimes Trio will perform from 7 to 9pm. If you remember Olivia Grimes from the 70s and 80s, you’ll recognize her son Mike as the lead singer.

Downstairs from the event is the NM Ski Hall of Fame Museum, which will be open during the celebration so folks can check it out. Many of you know that our friend and fellow Sitzmarker, Paul Souder was inducted into the Ski Hall of Fame in 2013; you’ll be able to read about him and other Hall of Fame members at the museum. We also hope to have tables with several of the local ski and sports stores available to talk to folks about equipment for the upcoming ski season and other sports-related items.

For further details and to RSVP, please visit our web site at 60th Celebration Announcement – NM Sitzmarkers. We will continue to update the announcement with additional information, so please visit the page from time to time.

2026-27 Ski Season Planning

We have some preliminary plans for ski trips this coming season. Current proposed dates include:

  • Wolf Creek – January 8-10
  • Monarch – February 4-7
  • Wolf Creek – March 5-7

We also hope to plan several day trips to Santa Fe, perhaps as often as one weekday and one weekend per month. These may be regularly scheduled dates such as the first Friday and third Sunday of each month. We will continue to let everyone know as we confirm these dates and plans.

Web Site and Social Media Enhancements

Hopefully, many of you have visited our new web site at NMSitzmarkers.org. If you are a member, you can login to see your membership information and view any “member only” posts and events. You can log in by clicking on the Member Login under Account. If you have trouble getting into your account, please email us at [email protected].

We post all upcoming events on the site under Club Info, in Public or Club Announcements, and under Events as well. Please visit the Galleries area to see pictures from various past events.

I also post a monthly Prez Sez article highlighting upcoming activities. All Prez Sez articles are found under Club Info and the Prez Sez link.

In addition to our website, we actively maintain a Facebook page (NM Sitzmarkers Facebook) and an Instagram page. We encourage you to visit these pages and follow us. The events that we post on the website will also be posted on Facebook. Please “like” and comment on our Facebook posts to help increase the club’s exposure.

Other Coming Events

Although our club was formed as a ski club 60 years ago it has always been more than that. We are truly a social club, with year-round events, thus our motto, “We Ski Too!”. We plan Sitzmarker Nights Out (SNO) every month, and sometimes multiple SNOs per month. We recently held the annual Isotopes tailgate and game event and the annual 4th of July cookout. On July 15th, we will have an SNO event at the Tin Can Alley Santa Fe Brewery to enjoy our very own Mike Grimes perform with The Turner and Grimes Trio. In August, we have a member sponsoring an RV and camping event at the Angel Fire Resort. We encourage our members to suggest and sponsor SNO events such as the RV and camping event, hiking, or other interesting and fun adventures. If you have an idea for an event, please contact us at [email protected].

Thank you for reading through this. We look forward to seeing you at one of our upcoming events and especially at the awesome 60th Anniversary Celebration!

SNO Isotopes Tailgate and Game

baseball-game

LET’S ATTEND THE ISOTOPES BASEBALL GAME ON

TUESDAY, June 16, 2026

Tailgate Party – 5:00 pm    Baseball Game – 6:35 pm

We are planning to attend the Albuquerque Isotopes baseball game as a group on Tuesday, June 16.  Before the game, we plan to hold a “Tailgate Party” in a shady area with trees that is in one of the parking lots north of the football stadium (see map).  The tailgate party will begin at 5:00 pm but come when you can. The game starts at 6:35 pm.  You can bring any beverage or snacks to the Tailgate party to share with the group.  We will provide tables, plates, cups and flatware.  It will cost $7.00 (credit card only) to park in the lot so you may want to consider carpooling.

We plan to sit in the box seat section (probably Section 108) where the tickets cost $20.00.  If you would like tickets to sit with the group, contact Mike Harrison or Mike Campbell or contact us.  If your credit is good, he will purchase the tickets and distribute them just before the game or you could pick them up at his home during the day on the Monday before the game or on the day of the game.  Please note that the game starts at 6:35 pm.

Our chances of getting a block of tickets together will be much better if we buy the tickets at least 5 days ahead of the game day.  If you want to participate, please contact us soon, certainly by June 8.

Sitzmarker Event – RV/Camping at Angel Fire Resort

Hello, fellow Sitzmarker members!  Phil and Cindy Newman are planning on hosting an RV/cabin event at the Angel Fire Resort on the nights of August 29, 30, and 31, 2026.  Given the popularity of this location, it is not too early to mark your calendars and make reservations for this event.  We expect that the Angel Fire Resort will fill up quickly.  The Angel Fire Resort is among the top RV resorts in the country with large, paved sites, on-site activities, a great club house, spa, as well as pickleball courts.  They also have new cabins which are part of the RV park.  Tents are not allowed. The Resort is located in one of the most beautiful locations in northern New Mexico where elk, deer, and eagles are frequent visitors.  Check out the resort at: Angel Fire Luxury RV Resort – New Mexico on Enchanted Circle.  This particular rally will appeal to those who want a more upscale experience and the option to participate in many planned activities.  Some of these activities may include:

  1. Welcome Dutch Treat Dinner in Red River
  2. Vietnam Memorial tour
  3. Pickleball play and instruction (equipment provided)
  4. Horseshoe Contest, ping pong playing, corn hole play
  5. Option for hiking, golf, or fly fishing
  6. Planned bike/e-bike rides
  7. Planned picnic by the lake (option drive or ride bike to lake)
  8. Progressive dinner
  9. Game night
  10. Chair lift and picnic at top of Angle Fire mountain
  11. Chuckwagon dinner show in Red River

You will need to make your own reservations by calling Angel Fire Resort directly.  The resort’s phone number is 575-377-4472.  Remember, if you don’t have your own RV, you can rent one or stay in one of their cabins.  If you are making a reservation for an RV spot, ask them to put you as close to Phil Newman as possible. IMPORTANT: Please contact the Sitzmarker’s Angel Fire Event host, Phil Newman at 214-437-3734, after you call and make resort reservations. He will provide you with additional details.  We expect this to be a great event.  Hope you can join us!
