I Miss Taking a Bus on Our Ski Trip

We have not taken a bus for our ski trips for several years. Members have asked why we can’t have a bus, so here are the FAQ and answers.

I really enjoyed the bus trips. It was relaxing. Made for great socializing. Why can’t we have a bus?

 The cost of chartering a bus has gotten very expensive. Buses have capacity for 56 people and now cost $5,250.00 plus accommodations for the driver, so add $200. Our average trip has 25 people, so that would add $218 or more per person to the cost of a trip. It is not realistic.

Can’t afford a bus, then how do we get to the ski area together?

 The Sitzmarkers Ski Club Coordinator helps make arrangements between members who are willing to drive and those who want to be a passenger for the trip.  The price of the trip includes transportation cost. Each member pays for transportation as part of their ski trip payment. Then the driver is reimbursed by the Club. The driver does not have to ask their passengers for any money. No difficult conversations needed. No last minute surprises, you know the cost of the trip from the moment you see the sign up form. The Club takes care of transportation costs. We are very grateful to members to agree to drive and make the trips enjoyable.

I miss the socialization that happens on the bus. How do I get to know people on the trip?

 The ski trips are opportunities for people to make new friends and get reacquainted with people they have not seen since last season. This is especially true for new members or those going on a ski trip for the first time. Organizing the drivers and passengers is the first step to a fun trip. We get the conversation started about who wants to ski what type of terrain and facilitate people skiing together—remember this is skiing with friends!  Additionally, Sitzmarkers have planned social events on the trip. Examples include happy hours at the location we are staying, group dinners in or out, meeting for lunch on the mountain, and other evening gatherings.
